What if a worker just replies "ok" to a shift text?
A text reply like "ok" won't confirm a shift in Sparks Flow. Workers must tap the secure link so there's a clear record. Written by Kim Matthews.

In short
A plain text reply like "ok" or "no" will not confirm or decline a shift in Sparks Flow, the worker needs to tap the secure link in the text itself. It works this way so there is a clear, timestamped record of who confirmed what and when, rather than a string of text replies that could mean different things to different people.
Nothing to worry about. Flow needs the worker to tap the secure link in the text and confirm or decline the shift there, so a plain reply like "ok" or "no" back to the text itself will not update anything in your roster. The fix is simple: just ask them to tap the link and confirm properly.
Why does Flow work this way instead of just reading text replies?
Every shift offer goes out as a text with a secure link attached. That link is where the actual confirming or declining happens, with one tap, no app and no login for your worker. It is built this way on purpose, so there is a clear, timestamped record in Flow of who confirmed what and when, rather than a string of text replies that could mean different things to different people.
If a worker texts back "ok" or "no" directly instead of using the link, that message goes nowhere near Flow. It just sits in your phone's messages like any other text. So the shift will still show as unconfirmed on your dashboard until they actually tap through and respond properly.
Weak
Worker texts back "ok" to the shift offer. This message stays in your phone's messages and never reaches Flow, so the shift keeps showing as unconfirmed on your dashboard.
Clear
Worker taps the secure link in the text and confirms the shift with one tap. Flow records exactly who confirmed and when, and the shift updates on your roster straight away.
What should you do if a shift is stuck as unconfirmed?
If you notice a shift sitting as unconfirmed, the easiest thing is a quick follow up: "Hey, can you tap the link in that text and confirm the shift there?" Most of the time that sorts it straight away. Flow is built around texted links so a family's support workers can use it without a second thought, no new app to download, no password to remember. But that only works if the tap happens on the link itself, not a reply to it.
If you are finding a particular worker keeps replying instead of tapping through, it is worth a gentle reminder that the link is where the shift actually gets locked in. And if something still is not behaving the way you expect, our team is happy to help you sort it out.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
- What happens if a support worker replies "ok" to a shift text instead of tapping the link?
- Nothing changes in your roster. Flow only registers a confirmation or decline when the worker taps the secure link in the text, so a plain reply like "ok" just sits in your phone's messages and the shift stays unconfirmed on your dashboard.
- Why doesn't texting back confirm a shift in Sparks Flow?
- Flow is built so confirming or declining only happens through the secure link, giving you a clear, timestamped record of who confirmed what and when, rather than a string of text replies that could mean different things to different people.
- Will a shift show as confirmed if the worker replies by text instead of using the link?
- No. The shift will still show as unconfirmed on your dashboard until the worker actually taps through the link and responds there.
- What should I do if a worker keeps replying to the text instead of tapping the link?
- Send a quick follow up asking them to tap the link in the text and confirm the shift there. A gentle reminder that the link is where the shift gets locked in usually sorts it straight away.
- Does the worker need an app or login to confirm a shift in Sparks Flow?
- No. Workers just tap the secure link in the text and confirm or decline with one tap, no app to download and no password to remember.
- Who do I contact if a shift still isn't confirming properly after the worker taps the link?
- Email hello@sparksflow.app and the team will help you work through it.
